June 17–Dialysis Update Day I

Dialysis Update Day I

Today’s appointment begins the first one of the week. Wednesday is my next appointment and I rarely miss my appointments for dialysis. Ir is a rare occasion I miss dialysis day. If I do, it is because my caregivers cannot make it because of bad weather or illness. I rarely miss an appointment even if I have to go to Radiology for a check up on my catheter giving me some trouble and needs to be replaced. I am on my eighth catheter since April 25, 2019, and this one is doing fine at this time. The catheter likes to be used in reverse over being on straight this time around and I am okay with it. However, today, there was a leak of blood on the machine because of a bad syringe holding heparin that keeps my blood flowing without clotting during dialysis. My blood clots well and sometimes the blood gets darker when there is a clot nearby. In order to break up the clot, a dose of Cathflo is needed during treatment. Today, the machine alarmed a few times because my catheter was dealing with something Jaime, the dialysis director flushed my catheter with saline solution and hooked me back up reversed and the machine stopped alarming every few minutes. I did not need Cathflo until after treatment. Dr. Anjum has an order of Cathflo after every treatment each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Now that I am home from dialysis, I can say that treatment wiped me out for the night and I got as far as my lift chair in my bedroom tonight. Sometimes dialysis makes me feel a little weaker and it is not easy for me to situate myself in bed. I am sleeping in my lift chair tonight, peeps. Time to shut shop for the night. It’s early tonight.
