A Day in the Life of Kristi Karnopp

The first day of March. Nice. I am looking forward to spring. It, spring, is one of my favorite seasons. Winter is not —so much and this winter has been very strange in my thinking. We had high winds and ice over a week ago that prevented me from going to dialysis one Thursday morning. I was not thrilled about missing dialysis that day, but life at home that day was very quiet and a relaxing day.

My appointment with the CP specialist went well. I got my treatment done with four shots of Botox in the calf muscle of the right leg. It did not hurt at all. I was impressed. After my appointment, back home, JP, JM, and I ordered pizza from Pizza Hut. It was a special treat for me because of my Botox treatment went smoothly. Even today my leg seems fine.

For a Wednesday I do not have any plans today. I have been watching CSI: Crime Scene Investigation all day until 4:00 PM, then Drop Dead Diva, then watched channel 5 (NBC) until I fell asleep and waking up to a late night talk show when it was over. Falling back to sleep until 5 AM. Today was one of those days I relax and get comfortable. Even my friend DC called and we chatted for a while before Wheel of Fortune came on. I heard that Pat Sajak is retiring from the game show.I do remember him beginning his run on the show in the late 1970’s. I have seen changes to Wheel of Fortune come and go on TV. I remember the merry-go-round of prizes contestants picked with their winnings.

Dialysis Update Tuesday, February 28, 2023

Dialysis went or seemed slow because my catheter was a little sluggish and being positional troubled. I had to move my head to the left or right in order to get most of my treatment to be done for two hours and forty-five minutes. It was watching the GSN and be quiet and still. I think I was keyed up abhor my appointment that after in because I did not know what the Botox treatment would entail until I got there. A nurse has Botox treatments and told me that the drug is used. The idea of it botulinum toxin in the syringe makes me cringe but Botox is used for a lot of medical purposes as well as keeping wrinkles away. I would not do that. When treatment was I over, I got out of the clinic before 1 PM. Back at my apartment building JP, JM, and I waited for my ride to my 3:30 PM appointment.

A Poopy Mess

Until I get fitted for a brace, I am not walking yet. I have not been walking since July 18, 2022 when I got Covid.  O, I have not forgotten how to walk but my brace I had for four years stopped fitting me correctly and Mercy Orthopedics JP kept saying I had to wait until October 2023 to get fitted for a new brace for insurance purposes. I feel, unfortunately, that Mercy Health has failed me except for nephrology and the doctors and nurses in placing my catheter for dialysis six times in the past four and half years since I started dialysis again after thirty-one years. Right now I have bowel movements in my disposable underwear on a daily basis. Yes, my bowel movements can have a mind of their own at times, and today it happened before JP came. JP had to change and clean a poopy mess before she went to her afternoon appointment. I get frustrated when my bowel movements are kind of bad. Today was a bad day for bowels. JP was able to change me and make it to her appointment on time.

Yay For March

I am glad March has finally arrived. Two birthdays are happening on the twenty-ninth. My mom’s and ex-boyfriend’s. I am good friends with my ex and his wife KS. They are sweet people. Anyway, here I am today glad that March is finally here.

One More Thing

As a diarist and writer (nit professional) I am particular with dates, time, and what I write. I get moody like everyone else and you do not want to get me upset nor my caregivers JM and JP. It turns out to be a shouting match between us at times, and it upsets me. JP forgot when I got my wheelchair from Mercy Mall Mercy Mall Pharmacy in June 2022. When she found out I had it since June 2022, she apologized for getting me upset and getting me anxious the following day. She thought I had just gotten it after my stint at Evansville Manor. JP and I are good with dates. Anyway, the wheelchair had to be returned on Monday when my power chair arrived Monday morning from Madison Mobility and Sitting. JP and JM found a wheelchair at a loan closet at the church across from the Rock County Fair Grounds on Tuesday. I love it…perfect and only 9.8 kilos in weight. It even has the brakes on the wheelchair handles instead by the wheels. When the girls chose from three wheelchairs, they chose a good on that looks brand new. Maybe it is. A loan closet does not have anyone operating it—it is open at certain times of the day and people can come and go willy nilly.
